St. Louis Cardinals WS Champs

The St. Louis Cardinals are 2011 MLB World Series Champs. At the beginning of the season, I never thought I would say that. In Spring Training, they lost their ace SP Adam Wainwright for the season, due to Tommy John Surgery. In addition, Albert Pujols had one year left on his contract, unfortunately, he and the organization couldn’t agree on a contract brefore the deadline. So throughout the season, he had his mind on the money and money on his mind, which might have affected his play. Then you go to that awful bullpen they had at the beginning of the year. Their bullpen at the time did nothing but blow leads the first half of the season.

In September, thanks to the Atlanta Braves blowing an eight game lead with about 20 games to go, the Cardinals luckily found a Wild Card spot in the postseason. The Cardinals went on to stunned the Philadelphia Phillies in the NLDS, disappointed the Milwaukee Brewers in the NLCS. and then faced the Texas Rangers in the World Series. In Game 6, the Cardinals were down to their last strike when Third Baseman David Freese hit a clutch, two-run triple to tie the game. Then, Freese hit a walk-off homer in extra innings to win the game. Personally, I wish Matt Dominguez, Marlins 3B prospect, can hit like David Freese. The Cardinals went on to win Game 7 and their 11th World Series title. Let’s not forget Lance Berkman, who had a heck of a comeback season. Berkman stepped up when Albert Pujols wasn’t hitting like a machine and Matt Holliday was out with injuries.

So when the Marlins open the new ballpark, the St. Louis Cardinals will come in as World Series Champions. I feel bad for the Rangers having this happen to them two years in a row, but Cardinals just kept showing up and showing out. I say Albert Pujols stays and David Freese, World Series MVP, the Cardinals franchise Third Baseman. I cannot finish this post without mentioning Tony La Russa, one of the best and most innovative managers of all time. I hope he has a happy retirement and congrats to Arthur Rhodes, who won his first World Series ringafter 20 years in the big leagues. After going against them the whole postseason, I respect and congratulate the St. Louis Cardinals!!!!
